"Holey Wall" or "Plug'in da hole" (Pics?)
(trying again, hoping there's pics)

The previous owner of our townhouse customized the "half-bath" on the first floor. It has a beautiful faux finish, antique brass fixtures, and a pedestal sink.

Unfortunately, the brass toilet paper holder was loose, so I removed it to see what the matter was. I found a 2-inch hole in the wall behind it. The brass fixture was held in place by two 4-inch screws and expansion-clip wall anchors.

So I've removed all the anchors and screws, cleaned and sanded the hole, filled it with joint compound and covered it with a 3-inch wall patch (metal screen) which I then spackled. Now I get to wait a day or two before I sand it down.

...and all that before I have to match the two paints used for the faux finish so I can repaint it in the same sponge finish.

*sigh*

Don't forget to change your clocks back an hour on Saturday night... Daylight Savings Time ends Sunday, October 31st, at 1 am. Sunset will be at 5:07pm for Atlantic Coast folks starting Sunday.

...what other 'time for a change' do you think I meant? :)

Sure, our hero (Ken, again) made it work, but now can he navigate the maze of cubicles to find his safe, warm nest?

It's been a week or two since we last saw our hero, Ken, on his commute to work. This morning's drive was dark and drizzly, with a temperature of 50'F in Chantilly. ...will our hero find his office?

It was 50'F as I left the house this morning, certainly not the coldest morning we've had this autumn (it was 42'F last week). It's only a high of 63'F today with a high of 68'F for tomorrow. I thought that was notable...

You can tell it's autumn when the temperature never pushes past the mid-60's.
Internet Sharing... (whee!)

While Vicky's getting ready upstairs, I have my Sony Clie UX50 using the internet connection from my Motorola V600. I checked my e-mail, received seven e-mails, and replied to two. I then took these pics and posted them.

I truly hope the hiptop3 gets Bluetooth... :P

Hmmmm... might have helped if I posted the server farm pics too, would it?
Life on the (Server) Farm
Clustering our six Windows 2003 Enterprise Servers is finally coming along. Several of our senior network engineers helped me with the network architecture and design, and one is now helping me with the domain administration and clustering.

All of the racks are locked, as is the server room itself. The first rack contains all of our IBM eServer 365s, each with dual Xeon 2.4GHz processors and 4GB of RAM. The web application servers each have 200GB hard drives, while the Oracle database servers are 400GB RAID-5. When clustered, it makes for an incredible 24/7/365 website with load balancing and failover.

This morning wasn't nearly so interesting. Along one wall, we have four test machines and one public PC. The four test machines are all running Windows XP with different OSes and web browsers under four virtual machines (running VMware 4.5.1) so that we can perform browser and OS compatibility testing.

...fun stuff! :)
