first horrible day of the year
pcporter762 at tmail ° com {°|°}
So thurs. night I could not fall asleep at all...I ended up falling asleep at like 5 o'clock friday morning (since today is saturday) and I had to be awake at 8 lol. I woke up at 10....so anyways I had to be at an appointment near downtown at ten and its like a 20min walk from where I live to the bus stop. Well I get to where I was supposed to be an hour previous to my arrival and I knew that I had to reschedual but there system was down until 12 o'clock. So I had to sit there for an hour just for them to tell me that I had to come back on monday at 10. Wow. It gets better. I was an hour late to work, and when I showed up I almost got fired on the spot. The only reason I still have my job is because my boss knew I had an appointment at 10 and when I told her what happened she was like "oh well try noy to have appointments on the days you work". I work at a fast food / pizza joint and for those who think a job like that is easy.... trust me, its not. 120 degree kitchen+crazy boss screaming at you+asshole customers+stupid coworkers+500072893840598764895061284379 orders coming in at once+you being the only grill worker=not cool at all. So now I sit here in the comfort of my room which seems to be the only place that has managed to keep me sane.

In other news.... I finally decided to put the black bumpers on my Id that I ordered forever ago, I got sick of the gray ones, and I am not dissapointed at all. Well its now officially time to get some serious sleep. Good night. -- Sent from my T-Mobile Sidekick®

Out with Tim and Shaun today. Broke 2 of 3 trucks, Tim and Shaun broke one each. Heck of a rainstorm on the way home!

Makes me feel like my device is nearing completion. Still might not be enough to keep me from jumping ship on the 29th (",)... those iPhone commercials keep haunting me. Hopefully the UI is as smooth as they make it seem on the commercial... (yah, O'RLY?)

No, it wasn't a nightmare about buying the iPhone.

It was Paul Potts' performance of an operatic aria on the Today show this morning. Paul (really a cell phone salesman) won the top prize a few days on the TV show Britain's Got Talent. This was his first trip to America, and the first time a large US audience has seen him on television. He's returning to England right away to record his first album, which will be released in a month. He's also scheduled to perform for the Queen.

On YouTube: First audition - Nessun Dorma, semi final with mini-documentary, winning final performance.

Amazing. Watch.

I remember hearing about the Microsoft Surface a while back, but thanks to sarcasticgamer.com's recent parody I was reminded of it again.  It was a pretty funny parody but once I stopped laughing I realized again how much I really really want one of these things in my living room. Maybe in 5-10 years...
It's about time...

Where my visit to the Media Lab earlier this month closed the loop on conversations started 14 months ago, today's visit was to set a firm stage for the future. Our CIO and my boss are the executive sponsors of our relationship of the lab and they were here today to kick off conversation on research collaborations. Pictured here are some snaps from our tour.

We started the morning with a quick visit to the One Laptop per Child Foundation to check in on their progress. SJ Klein answered our questions and demoed the latest hardware.

Cory Kidd in the Robotic Life group is a week away from placing his diet coach robots into homes for field trials.

I'm mugging with Jack Driscoll, Editor-in-residence at Media Lab and founder of the Silver Stringers, a group of senior citizen journalists that has been publishing an online newspaper for 11 years.

Hugh Herr gave us another overview of his human augmentation work in the biomechatronics lab. He described the next version of his powered prosthetic ankle.

Some of Tod Machover's students demonstrated their research in advanced digital musical instruments. Shown here are two of his classic instruments for kids.

After many thank yous and with pages of notes and lists of action items my colleagues headed their separate ways. I taxied back alone to the airport to catch my Delta Connection Comair CJ150.
