Lakehurst at the White House Picture
this picture is owned by the submitter. contact submitter for permission before using it in any way-----Original Message----- From: Bathrick, Mark Captain NAES Lakehurst Sent: Monday, October 27, 2003 7:02 AM To: LKHR All Hands Subject: Lakehurst at the White House Picture

Navy Lakehurst,

The attached photo was taken when three members of our Lakehurst team (Mark Gindele, George DiBiase, Rich Headley) recently traveled to the White House to present President Bush with a section of the actual arresting cable used to bring his aircraft to a safe stop aboard the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72), in early May.

As most of you are aware, Lakehurst is the only place in the world entrusted with making the arresting gear cables (along with numerous other flight critical components) for our aircraft carriers and those of our allies. That the President chose to join the many Navy and Marine Corps aviators and flight deck personnel who trust their lives with Lakehurst designed, manufactured, and tested products like this arresting cable certainly speaks highly of the Lakehurst team and the contributions that each of you make to this "heritage of service". A proud moment for the entire Lakehurst team.

On our way to Hunter Mtn to ride the chair lift and hike to the fire tower. Turned out to be a nice day!

New (empty) Apartment
I signed the lease and paid my deposit and first month rent and got my key. Yay. I will soon be a resident of Brick, NJ. (the RIT people will see the irony there). I posted some pictures in my photo album. Http://www.sarasera.com --Sara
backwards log
I'm sitting in the back seat of John W's truck. Jon L is sitting on my toes. Everard is in the front. There's a country CD playing. The rain is bouncing off the truck bed cover. The temperature is perfect. I need to stop and pee. We've been driving an hour and have 6 or so to go. I can't understand the conversation around me. I pick up a phrase here and there. This keeps my imagination going.

I think JL just said "It's more enjoyable on the way home after a trip" "late at night, dark and rainy like this..." The traffic just stopped. Jon was nervous on the ride down. Ryan? was driving... He made sudden lane changes with no signal. Scary. He was going fast too.

The rain is really coming down now. A sheet of water across the windshield.

Jon's phone lost coverage too. We just passed a van with its nose in the ditch.

Jon's readjusting his seat belt so he can move around more. It gets too tight across the hips.

He's picking at stuff on my socks. He's a flirt. I like it. He says he hates NJ. He wants to leave. Probably go south. I said I'd go North. He then said he'd rather go North, but his wife wants to go South. "So, we'll probably get divorced... Then I can marry you." I laughed at him and he told everyone I was mean. :)

Enough tapping.

Philly Skate Jam
Waaaahoooo! Skating with 500 people totally rocks! We started out around 7:30 from the hotel and got back at 10:45. We skated streets, JFK Blvd, around and about, up and down...

Stopped whenever we needed to regroup or let traffic through. We had a police escort. At one point we went into the subway and skated the tunnels underground.

They put our $50 registration to good use. Tons of freebees from sponsors. I got 2 pair of wrist/palm slides. They're more comfortable than my old wrist guards. I have a deck of cards and cribbage... Stuff like that.

Amazing time, I am so glad I came. Now we're going out to eat. --Sara
