| New tamper Fri 11.10.06 6:56am PST #19779 |
When we were in Seattle last weekend, we finally broke down an bought a tamper from Espresso Vivace. We also picked up a pound of their Dolce blend. It's so nice to have a tamper that actually FITS. You'd think that Rancillio would give you a proper tamper to fit the machine, but it's several sizes too small. With the new tamper the channeling problems I've been having have been eliminated and I can darn near float a spoon on the crema. WooHoo for good espresso! Sleebus |

| What's it all about? Thu 11.09.06 8:29pm PST #19777 |
![]() ![]() ![]() It's been a very existential day here in Regan's world, between naps. Went to the interrment of one of my favorite high school teachers, Mrs. Jarvis, this morning at Arlington National Cemetery. Her body lies under the boughs of a pine tree. As I told old friends Lisa and Russell, I found a t-shirt she made for her AP Latin class last night while trying to decide whether to attend. It said, "Forsan et haec olim meminisse iuvabit." (Perhaps someday it will be pleasant to remember even these things.) Nothing really brings home the indifference of death like walking around Arlington National Cemetery with row upon row of identical headstones, each signifying someone who was important to somebody and now is no more. And so I pondered a while on what the point of it all is and decided I wasn't going to solve it today, but a nap and a popsicle would make me feel better. Which they did. |
| C'mon ride da train Thu 11.09.06 5:32pm PST #19776 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Little bloggaroo while I ride the train. First off the free wifi SUCKS on the train. Signal is mainly intermitent and when connected is slow as hell. Although at least I did get a signal today for a few mins, so here's a pic of me reading my brothers blog about his Foo Fighter/Bob Dylan concert he attended which sounds like it was aces. What else do I do on the train? Mainly study lately for the next CPA exam but I'm taking a break from it this evening, and treating myself to some music videos. As one hit wonderous as they were, I love Crazy Town. Too bad the dark haired fellow died which kills any chance of me seeing them... plus the fact that they are drug addicted one hit wonders. I also had a gum graft yesterday at 7am. Ill spare the franken-gums pics but its not that pretty while healing. They harvest like little farmers off the roof of your mouth and attach to the lower gums up front. Overall not bad, and this was my 2nd one (12 years later) so I was an old pro. Although being seated way back with a mouth full of gauze to stop the bleeding up top while they cut and pulled and sewed my lower gums wasn't exactly the highlight of my year. Not to scare anyone who needs a gum graft. Actually its not bad, I still contend easier on the nerves and pain than a decent cavity filling. Ill look forward to my next one 12 years from now. What else... having an early thanks giving dinner this sunday with my old miniputt team which really is just my friend Meghan and her crew, as well as some others we befriended during the miniputt season (Lynn and Jimmy) from Ocktoberfest. All good people. Look out for that blog. I also promised my old cohorts from my last job I'd drive over the bridge next tuesday for lunch since I haven't seen them now for a month, and I do miss all my old friends. I also went to lunch with another ex-employee of my last company yesterday, who left 1 week after me. It was good to catch up and bad mouth people we didn't like there. Who knew I was so popular. Okay I'm off to watch my David Lee Roth "California Girls" video. |
