Greetings from Zilker Park! Fri 09.19.03 1:29pm PDT #6383 |
Checking in from Austin, Texas. We're at the (now) annual Austin City Limits festival. Check it out! Currently enjoying a set from Liz Phair. The festival goes all weekend. We are posting up at the Capitol Metro stage today, with some prime seats for tonight's closer, The Reverand Al Green. I plan to check in regularly, so see you again soon. Signing off, |

Hmmm, where to start, where to start? I'm at the theater right now, programming the moving lights for an upcoming dance show. More accurately put, I am working with a dozen students individually, all through April, teaching them how to design and program the automated lighting for a modern dance show. Equipment: (1) Whole Hog II Lighting Console (8) High End Systems Cyberlights (6) HES Technobeams (4) HES X.Spots (2) HES Studio Colors One of the pictures is the lighting console with one of my students at it. Iduring the month of April every year, I am here almost anytime that I am not at my full time job. Most nights I will come straight to the theater immediately after work at six, staying here until around one in the morning (on average), only to get back up the next day at 7:30 for work. Then on the weekends I'll do two to three 4-hour sessions a day at the theater. As you can probably guess, this means that during the month of May I sleep like the dead. The other picture is my newest toy. The 3.2 megapixel Pentax Optio S. It fits inside of an altoids tin. You really can't grasp how small this camera is without seeing it in person. I cracked up when it finally arrived via UPS and I pulled it out of the box. I can palm the thing, and it almost disappears in my hand. ATL Airport - 2 Hour Layover Fri 01.24.03 6:33pm PST #2711 |
Ahhhh yes. Once again I am flying the friendly skies. Departure point: Austin, TX (AUS) Destination: Chapel Hill, NC (by way of RDU) Amusing airport fact: restaurants in airports now give you a metal fork and a plastic knife to eat your meals with. I chuckle. I am all set for a nice relaxing weekend with my girlfriend. North Carolina got a few inches of snow this week, so I had to dress for cold weather. I decided that I couldn't possibly travel in my bots and HEAVY leather jacket without taking my hat along also. So I am cowboyed up for the weekend. I'm sure that my girlfriend and her room mates will be quite amused. That's all for now Flight Attendant: "There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjouy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?" -Airplane - Phil IM: z6p6tist6 E-MAIL: zapatista@tmail.com -----Original Attachments Unavailable----- |
Even more music! Sat 01.18.03 6:39pm PST #2619 |
Well, I am definitely itching this scratch (that is is my craving for music), though this post probably won't be quite as long as last night's. The Steve Earle concert was incredible last night, as I expected. Tonight, I am in South Austin, at the Saxon Pub. The Saxon is probably one of the best tiny venues to see music around here. It's small, dark, and smoky. Tonight is the W.C. Clark Blues Revue. From the web site: "The Revue mixes Memphis soul hard Austin blues to create their own blend of blues." And much to my surprise when I walked in the door, I found a flier for tommorow night's guest...none other than the Bastard Sons Of Johhny Cash. A little country (the old stuff), and a little rock. Looks like a weekend of music for me. Definitely can't complain. "I don't know anything about music. In my line you don't have to." - Elvis Presley "the mandolin is the bottom four strings of the guitar, backwards...so a person with dyslexia has no problem learning to play the mandolin." - Steve Goodman "Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?" - John Cusack (Rob Gordon) High Fidelity - Phil IM: z6p6tist6 E-MAIL: zapatista@tmail.com |
