Tragedy struck our fair city park today when the lifeless body of Sid Squirrel was discovered lying on the ice of the frozen Duck Pond in the Boston Public Garden. Signs of a struggle were apparent, as several large acorns were found strewn around the scene of the crime indicating theft as a probable motive.

"I don't know who could have done such a senseless thing," commented an anonymous mallard duck who lives in the area. "Sid was always so generous with his nuts...sharing them with all the other squirrels. Why oh why did this have to happen? I'm just glad my ducklings are away on Spring Break and didn't have to witness this."

Park pidgeons in the police department are on full alert, and encourage anyone with tips to please call 911 immediately. "We'll get this nut nabber, I promise," asserted Police Chief Percy. "We're dusting the acorns for prints, and we have some good leads. Oh excuse me, that old lady is tossing breadcrumbs again...gotta go."

Canadian Geese living in the area were unavalable for comment (having flown South for the winter).
