| Wow.... Wed 10.11.06 7:16pm PDT #19468 |
I can't front, I almost shit my pants today. Even knowing that this is just a tragic accident which took the lives of Cory Lidle and others, it was still way too soon. The sentiments and emotions of Sept. 11th came roaring back with a vengance... It started out as subtle whispers amongst employees, then customers started getting in on the act... Next thing you know, everyone is just asking outright for status reports. It was the same thing all over again. Everyone grasping greedily for any tidbit of information they could get about the accident... People feverishly mashing fingers on cellphones trying to dial loved ones or friends at home who were watching the news... And me in the center of it all with my SK3 showing customers and employees the first gruesome images of the accident that were just hitting the 'Net... But I must say, there was no real panic. After the initial few minutes, it seemed to me that everyone eventually adopted a "Ugh, not this shit again" mentality which I found quite refreshing... Not 30 minutes later, everybody just goes about their business and the world keeps turning. Only in New York can you have a commuter plane slam into a residential high-rise post 9/11 and have everybody go "Eh, F*** it..." R.I.P. to all the deceased, because it now galls me that this prick Lidle will be the feature point of this story, and the other victims will go on unacknowledged throughout history except by their loved ones... Whew... Hadda get that off my chest. /rant "I thrash in the bed of my style, seeking a comfortable position." -Czeslaw Milosz |
