According to the New York State Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control, the Keg Registration Program is part of a continuing effort to prevent underage alcohol consumption. The new law requires anyone purchasing a container of four or more gallons of beer to leave a $75 deposit in addition to charges they would normally pay for a keg. Additionally, anyone who doesn't return a keg within 30 days of its purchase will lose the $75 deposit.
