| The Dean Machine Mon 11.08.04 8:05pm PST #11179 |
Former Vermont governor and Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean was in town to offer a post-election analysis as part of Empire State College’s Northeast Center lecture series at The Egg. He talked about what went wrong with the election but more importantly what went right and the steps that the Democrats need to follow for the next 4 years. Democracy for America was discussed, along with its grassroots involvement in the democratic process. The organization focuses on building progressive policies, such as health care for all; investment in children; equal rights under law; fiscal responsibility; and a national security policy that makes America stronger by advancing progressive values. Issues like race, pro-life & pro-choice, & his future plans, which hopfully include a run as Secretary of Health and Human Services were also covered. After his speach, Dean took some questions from the audience and proceeded to give a hilarious story about the 770 times he saw his famous YEEEAH! on televison and the power of the media. |
