The original plan for this movie, as revealed by Matt Stone in Variety, was for it to be a scene-by-scene remake of The Day After Tomorrow (the script of which they were given before filming started) using marionettes, and then theatrically release it on the same day (May 28th, 2004). "What we wanted to do," says Stone, "was a send-up of these super important huge action movies that Jerry Bruckheimer makes. The subtle joke here is that all actors are 'puppets.' This will probably piss off everyone in town, and might well be our swan song."
