With my group of seven co-workers who are lab "virgins." Their brains will hurt so good by the end of the day.

Converging With Randy Covington
this picture is owned by the submitter. contact submitter for permission before using it in any wayI had a great discussion over dinner last night with Randy Covington, the director of Newsplex. Newsplex is a prototype advanced micro-newsroom for demonstration, training and research in next-generation newshandling tools and techniques run by an international newspaper association and the University of South Carolina.

We talked about how news reporting changed when citizen journalists flooded the BBC's inbox with phonecam coverage of the London bombings.

Randy talked about Newsplex's Election Moblog hosted by TextAmerica and his visit to South Korea's Ubiquitous Dream Hall. There is some explosive growth in internet usage over there.

The launch of Mobile ESPN during the Super Bowl is a development we agreed was significant. CNN has a review of the service.

More on Newsplex's projects can be found in their Convergence Newsletter

From my day: 1) For once, I was able to check into the hotel a couple hours early. Here's the view from the 10th floor of the Marriott of the MIT Press Bookstore and the T station. 2) Nice weather over the lab. 3) A photo of Walter Bender and me after a mind meld session in his office. Walter, who was Acting Director of the Media Lab for a bunch of years, is one week into his new job as President and COO of the One Laptop Per Child Foundation. Walter has been a huge supporter of my organization's mission, and I wish him well as he, Nicholas Negroponte, and the rest of their team hatch new plans to change the world. 4) Dinner at Sibling Rivalry, a restaurant where the chefs are two brothers to each offer their own take on the same menu. It was good catching up with Bruce who directs the programming of our national member event, which will attract 30,000 people to Anaheim later this year. Bruce talked about he books performers like Elton John, who is headlining this year. I also met Max, a cool guy who architects the staging of the shows.

Yup, Picture Posting Still Broken.
this picture is owned by the submitter. contact submitter for permission before using it in any wayI still had to use the workaround to get these posts to appear. The last post sat in my outbox for a good 40 minutes during my taxi ride home.

Hello? Danger? T-mobile? This problem has persisted for days, and has happened several times in the last few months.

Saturday Beings
this picture is owned by the submitter. contact submitter for permission before using it in any wayJenna sent us 80 digital drawings of little aliens to use as decoration for Cianna's bedroom. Amy made them into coloring pages so Cianna could pick out some of her favories. Rainy Saturday fun.
