Geek Tour Thu 03.16.06 1:37am PST #17496 |
![]() ![]() ![]() After dropping my stuff off at the hotel, I hopped in a taxi to ride over to Danger HQ. I encountered a new low in taxi driver stupidity. This driver not only barely understood english (typical), but was using a voice-enabled GPS unit, and had me spell Park Boulevard to him several times before he got it keyed into the unit. Then he just followed the voice prompts, which amazing got me to the building. Joe gave me a Danger t-shirt--woo hoo! And then I went across the street to Fry's to oogle electronic hardware. - mike lee - palo alto, ca |

Vegas Bound! Wed 03.15.06 11:34am PST #17493 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ...not really. Not until May. My flight today will just make a stop in Vegas on its way to San Jose. I'm headed to Stanford University in Palo Alto to attend the Media X sponsor event tomorrow and Friday. Yes, I'll likely stop by Danger HQ tomorrow morning to shake Joe Britt down for some swag. My early morning taxi ride from home to BWI was pretty quick. I'm flying Southwest for the first time in since they opened their new terminal last summer. It's certainly spacious and shiny. I was surprised there was no WiFi by the gate so I couldn't download the very lastest Daily Show to watch on the plane. This six-hour flight on a 737-300 is elbow-to-elbow full, but I have my iPod with Belkin battery to keep me occupied. Video I'm consuming: The Daily Show, ABC News, Electric Catwalk, Tiki Bar TV, and JD Lasica's Media. Audio: Diggnation, Engadget, Anthony Robbins audio sampler from TED, and various song playlists. - mike lee |
New Brain Age & Blackberry Mon 03.13.06 9:08pm PST #17474 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Nintendo's PR firm visited the office today to demo their soon-to-be-released game Brain Age for the DS portable game console. Based on a book of brain training games by Dr. Ryuta Kawashima, this is the first U.S. version of the runaway best selling game in Japan. Here is one person's photos and descriptions of the game screens. We won't have to wait until the game's release because the reps left several copies of the game and cartridges for us to keep. Nintendo is marketing the game to baby boomers, which is why they're interested in schmoozing our organization. I also finally got my new blue gunmetal-colored Blackberry 7290 today from our IT group because our company switched to T-mobile recently. That explains why the signal to my Sidekick got dramatically better throughout our building about a month ago. I also ordered a copy of O'Reilly's Blackberry Hacks. - mike lee - washington, dc |
Joining The Mass Consumption Club & Sampling Zipfizz Sun 03.12.06 10:16pm PST #17466 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We went to Costco, otherwise known as the cathedral of consumption, to sign up for a card. We're not going to make this a way of life, but it'll be handy to get certain things in bulk once in a while. I noted the decently-priced LCD TVs, and marveled at the 7 lb. can of baked beans, but passed on both. I did buy a 20 pack of the new Zipfizz health energy drink mix. I tested a tube of the fizzy poweder out in the car with bottled water. The citrus taste was not nearly as strong as Red Bull or Sparks--my current choices, but I did feel revived for a few hours after and didn't have a crash. We'll see how this stuff works out this week. I'll be able to pack some tubes for my out-of-town travels to hotels where it's sometimes hard to find energy drinks. Costco will sell it to you online for a little over $1 a tube. Interesting to note that Zipfizz used video blogs to market the product. I would down the evening with the first South Park UMD for Sony PSP, When Technology Attacks. Beyond funny... - mike lee - wheaton, md |
Hot Chips Sun 03.12.06 9:31am PST #17459 |
![]() Here's the story from the back of the bag: Get too close to Mama Zuma and you will get burned. This woman is determined to scorch everyone in her path. Mama Zuma's weapons are the hottest jalapeņo and habanero peppers this side of the Rio Grande. Since she lost the love of her life in a bizarre and tragic potato peeler accident, Mama Zuma has been hell bent on burning every mouth she kisses with her special brand of passion. And the chips are super-hot! - mike lee - wheaton, md |
Fells Point Fun Sat 03.11.06 8:50pm PST #17446 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We all drove up to Fells Point in Baltimore this gorgeous day. I had a late morning brainstorming meeting at the Daily Grind with makeup artist and hairsylist Nikki. Mommy and baby went off exploring for a while. 2) Then we had lunch with Scott and Jenna who are now married and moving back to Baltimore from Seattle. 3) Cianna and I listed to the celtic violinist for a while, while mommy went to get some ice cream. Then we headed home where Cianna met our neighbor's puppy...all in all a grand day out. - mike lee - wheaton, md |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Life gets a little better: Today iTunes started offering multipass subscriptions to The Daily Show. I signed right up for the $9.95 pack of 16 episodes. Also, my Apple Radio Remote arrived. It adds an FM radio tuner to the new iPods. - mike lee - wheaton, md - trying to close the abundance gap |
