...the strap-hanger. These are photos from yesterday evening's family commute home. Cianna tried to say "hello" to all passengers who would make eye contact with her.

"AJAX, SaaS, SOA, RIA, Ruby, mash-up, TNNI, tagging, wiki, long tail, viral, meta-communities..."

It's raining buzzwords here at the Ritz Carlton Hotel...

I'm at the New New Internet Conference in Tyson's Corner, VA today with our company CIO and some other techy co-workers.

The morning was a bit thick on company marketing plugs, but Dion Hinchcliffe's panel discussion is pretty good.

Here are some talking points from one of the presenters.

Rajen Sheth, Product Manager, Google Enterprise:

What does Web 2.0 mean for business? - Simplicity for the end user - Simplicity for the developer - Eliminate barriers to information - Power of the cloud

Key lessons about Web 2.0 for business - Employees and consmers are one in the same - Always keep it simple for the average user - The simplest most useful standard wins in the end - Information quality= Great search X More information - Hosted services let you focus on your business rather than your infrastructure

Rajen did have a funny story about the first usability test of Google. Some users paused for a long time when presented with the Google search page of 1997. It turns out they thought all the white space was from the page loading. So the designers added a copyright line in the footer.

We spent 4 hours walking around Rehoboth Beach, (Delaware) and boardwalk, then had dinner at the Rams Head Beach House. The weather was great, and no crowds at all as it's off season. This was Cianna's first experience with ocean beach since she was 6-months-old. Now at 2y 10m, she loved dodging the breaking waves and picking up horseshoe crab shells. She commented that the surf was "noisy."

We stopped at the famous Bridgeville Kiwanis Club Chicken Barbeque Stand on 404 at 36 for lunch. The chicken platter (pictured) was outstanding. The moist meat just fell off the bone. Onward.

I'm sitting in the back of the car on Toddler 'Tainment duty for part of this ride to the shore. I introduced my daughter to the joys of Easy Cheese and Ritz Crackers!

Celebrating our 18th at Mrs. K's Toll House. Our anniversary is easy to remember now because it's the day before 9/11. Pictured is mazza/tomato/balsamic salad, demi-sweet champagne, my crab cakes, her scallops.

Bubble milk tea from Maria's Bakery Cafe, a SunTrust ATM nearby that is unusually grime free, Cianna plays with the merchandise at the REI Store, clapping at a passing train, and drawing with sidewalk chaulk at home with mommy.
