Mr. Jenkins I Presume? Thu 12.14.06 2:33pm PST #20075 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After years of following each other's blogs--initially here on Hiptop Nation--I met up with Mr. Keith Jenkins for lunch. Keith is now the photography editor for the paper version of The Washington Post. You can still see his old moblog posts here in HN posted as "keithwj." We talked shop and traded great rants over lunch, and then he walked me through the photo department and the main newsroom (pictured). Next time we'll meet at my offices. Here's a micro-dossier on Keith: current blog, photos on Flickr, an interview and a podcast. - mike lee - washington, dc |
Super Dense Fog This Morning... Thu 12.14.06 6:10am PST #20070 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ...as I drive through the Silver Spring and College Park areas of Maryland to drop my daughter off at her grandma's house. Visibility is only about 500 feet--this is really unusual for this urbanized part of town. Feels a little like the SF Bay area, but without the hills. - mike lee - washington, dc |
Brainstorming In A Blizzard Of Post-ITs Fri 12.08.06 8:02pm PST #20022 |
![]() ![]() ![]() A second workshop day where we used scenarios created yesterday as lenses to distill down several hundred ideas to about 12. Also, Joel Garreau, author of the book Radical Evolution, gave a fascinating talk. - mike lee - washington, dc |
Back To The Future Thu 12.07.06 5:06pm PST #20017 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() From 9-5 today in one of our company boardrooms, I participated in another scenario planning session with practitioners from the Global Business Network looking out to the year 2015 and beyond. Deep conversation generated a sparkling rain of ideas throughout the day as people with marker pens recorded it all on easel paper. Clay Shirkey sat next to me at our group's table helping to facilitate the process. Clay teaches new media at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program and is widely recognized for his articles and essays. I hit him up for a chance to sit in on one of his classes, which he gladly agreed. Besides seeing him lecture, he's the kind of guy one would want to mind meld for hours over beers. - mike lee - washington, dc |
Very Sad News Wed 12.06.06 2:21pm PST #20009 |
![]() ![]() ![]() JUST IN The body of missing CNET editor James Kim has been located, authorities announced Wednesday. This after his wife and two daughters were found in the initial search. They had been stranded in their car in remote Oregon for nine days after a snowstorm. This is the 11th day that James was missing. From a site set up by their friends: A statement for the media - "The friends and community of the Kim family are deeply saddened by the news received today about James Kim. We want to send out our utmost thanks to the Search and Rescue teams who risked their lives in the efforts to bring James back to us, they are true heroes to risk their own lives for a stranger. As friends we know that we did everything we could to help in the search for the Kim family, which is our only comfort now. We thank the Oregon authorities, the media, and everyone who sent us their thoughts and prayers for their support through this very difficult time. Please continue to keep Kati, Penelope, Sabine and the rest of their family in your thoughts." - Scott Nelson Windels, friend of James and Kati Kim and family This story affected me because the daughters are half asian--I could see a little of my daughter's face in the photos. And I could see my family being in the same situation if we were driving around on snowy backroads. - mike lee - washington, dc |
