Howard Rheingold
this picture is owned by the submitter. contact submitter for permission before using it in any wayHere is Howard Rheingold at the commonwealth club in san francisco. When I asked if I could take his picture with my sidekick, he smiled and said, "Sure, I really want to get one of those things you know..." Then I asked if he'd mind if I posted it to Hiptop Nation and I think he must have smiled even BIGGER and said "Of course! I *am* going to check to see that it's actually there you know...

warning...
this picture is owned by the submitter. contact submitter for permission before using it in any wayDo not attempt to cross a busy intersection while checking your sidekick to see if a friend has responded to your message about dinner ....especially not in chinatown on a saturday afternoon...you will incur the wrath of taxi cab drivers and little old ladies carrying big bags of vegetables.

coffee house encounters
this picture is owned by the submitter. contact submitter for permission before using it in any wayWeird...I'm sitting at the Royal Ground cafe on Polk Street and a perfect stranger (older gentleman...maybe in his late 50s or early 60s) sees the Sidekick on the table, sits down next to me, and asks if it's some new kind of Palm device...

well sort of, I say, and proceed to show him everything it can do. (by now I feel rather disturbingly like a salesperson because this happens to me at least once every other day and i've got the whole spiel memorized...yesterday it was an old chinese lady at the bus stop who stopped and asked me if that was some new gameboy I was tapping away at. I'm assuming she has grandchildren and that's why she even knows what a gameboy is...is this happening to everyone else as well?)

anyways, he is SO EXCITED when I show him that it actually has a camera too and that I can email pics to him on the fly. And that it costs a mere $99. Apparently he is using a blackberry that is not nearly as cool. He is so genuinely thrilled, writes down the name of the device on a napkin, thanks me profusely...and then leaves me his number...

????

Yes...try this at home!! Or at the office! Cottage cheese mixed with Nori Komi Furikake (a japanese rice seasoning made with seaweed and sesame seeds. Those of you who don't live near a japanese supermarket can probably get the stuff online). Very tasty! And I actually don't even like cottage cheese. The things you discover when you don't go shopping for weeks and have completely run out of food...
