Well, we made it to Maryland (our stop before the last stretch this morning) just 16 minutes short of 12 hours. Stopped at "South of the Border" for a pit stop. For those unfamiliar, it's like a crappy, rundown amusement park, like where villians have their hideouts in movies. Everything's old, with gaudy, bold colors that have faded over time. There are billboards that start about 30 miles away from it and continue every mile or less. They probably spent more on the billboards than the "attraction" itself.

Just woke up. Within the hour, we'll be starting the 5 hour final leg of this trip. I really wish someone would hurry up and invent transporters...

A roofbag and McD's can only mean one thing. It's time for the loooooong trip home. The good news is that I'm not driving. Why's that good? Because I've had on the lesser side of 2 hours sleep, thanks to a few contributing factors. The bad news is that I'm in the passenger seat of an Explorer, with someone sitting behind me and a 13 hour trip ahead of me. Reading makes me carsick, it's too bright for DVDs, and I'm minutes away from hitting a data dead zone that lasts for 2 states. I see lots of head-bobbing micro-sleep in my immediate future.

Speaking of that dead zone... Just hit it. I should be well in to a sore neck and copious drooling by the time this gets through......

No, you don't typically put chives on cheeseburgers, but I needed something that rhymed. Stick with me here...

First, the pics from my last entry seem to have spun off in to oblivion. I'll try it again. The "lagoon", the anole, the turtle, and the house.

Second, our lead story tonight... Yesterday, we got up and hit the road at 9am to head off on a 2 hour drive to Charleston for "the best cheeseburger in the world", according to my future brother-in-law. According to the sign, it's merely the best in Charleston. Guess they're modest. The place is about as big as the living room I'm sitting in, sits near the entrance of a pier, and is owned and run by 3 old ladies, who look like they may be sisters. The seating consists of about 9 booths and every inch of the place is wood. Every inch of that wood is covered in carvings, like you would carve your name in to a tree. Apparantly, the building was almost completely submerged when the flood hit from that hurricane in whatever year it happened in. The water line from the flood is above the front door.

The place is called "Your Place". The burger was pretty good.

Pics: the inside, the outside, the wood

Ok, so it's been a bit longer than I said I'd be back. Ah well. Here's where we are for the week. It's one of those private golf course communities, where all businesses must conform to a prescribed design and color scheme (shades of beige in this case), including their signs (which have to fit a maximum height standard). People around here go to the beige bumps for their fast food fix. Rich people abound and multi-million dollar homes everywhere.....

Pics. I can't seem to get the order straight lately, so you're on your own. The "lagoon", the turtle, the anole ("American Chameleon"), the house (from the "lagoon").

Wow. 13 HOURS of highway later and we're finally here... Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head Island, SC. Sweet richy house we're staying in for the week. It's right on some sort of lagoon/inlet thing, with its own boat slip (no boat). Brand new pool (lit, with waterfall). Killer deck. Only problem is it's 11pm, yet it's 76F outside and *FREAKING HUMID*. It's so humid, in fact, that I'm having a heck of a time breathing (asthmatic). Thank the powers for central AC. Maybe I'll pick up an inhaler tomorrow...

Too tired for many pics. I'll take some tomorrow:

Pic 1: A katydid. All we have back home is grasshoppers.

Pic 2: The pool.

Hilton Head here we come, though we may be a couple years olser when we get there...

Pic 1: Every good trip starts with McD's breakfast, a little rain, and a roof bag (hope it holds)

Pic 2: Lots and lots and lots of traffic... --Chris/Logik AIM: ChrisLogik

So, today was Customer "Appreciation" Day at work. We got to wear shorts for one day, as a reward for a job well done (ooooooo!). They also had a free "picnic". Unfortunately, there were only hotdogs. The hamburgers weren't ready and you had to stand in a mile long line to get one, as they finished cooking one by one. No pics. Meant to, but it was too hot, I was too tired, and I was in a rush to......

......hit the road for 5 hours on our way to Maryland. It's off to North Carolina (Hilton Head) tomorrow. 10-12 hours from what I'm told. Thank the powers for Sidekick. Pics, but not many. Still too hot and a little carsick.

Pic 1: A whoooole lot of this...

Pic 2: ...and a little bit of that. [Cracker Barrel rules]

PS - Yes, that's a Homies poster. Yes, the dude in this cube has the entire collection of them. Yes, that's weird.

Battlestar Freaking Galactica
this picture is owned by the submitter. contact submitter for permission before using it in any wayThe complete series......on DVD.......in one box.......in October (or so). The '70s rule.

This is Muffit, by the way. He's a daggit. I've had him since my parents got him for me, around 1978, when the show was still on. He's adorned my desk at work for quite some time.

I'm currently trying to will Winter in to coming early. The air's so thick with humidity, it's barely breathable. Bleh. --Chris/Logik AIM: ChrisLogik

In an endless effort to be his coolest uncle, I'm at a family fun park with my nephew (and fiancee, and sister), rocking out in the arcade and kicking ass on the mini-golf course. I just let him trounce me on Fighting Vipers.

In other news, it's freaking humid as hell here today...
