Unlike Aaron, I haven't gotten through the fiendish Su Dokus yet, so I'm waiting impatiently for today's to be posted--which will hopefully be neither "fiendish" nor "difficult."

I'm also waiting impatiently for my TMobile service to stay on instead of dot dancing...

Today I received the day bag I ordered from Tom Bihn. They still have this "extra" message in the French part of some of their care instructions. Unfortunately, the message still applies.

This is my first macro experiment a la Mike Lee. I'll have to play around with the magnifiers more and in better light.

On my only trip (so far) to the Boundary Waters more than 10 years ago, I happily chowed on pizza and Coke after five days of camping food. Looking forward to that pizza propelled me on a long final paddle across Seagull Lake's choppy water in the rain. As much as I loved the canoeing trip, I also have fond memories of Sven & Ole's in Grand Marais MN, where I ate that pizza.

It's bitterly cold here in Kansas City today, but not as cold as it is in Minnesota. Still, spying a Sven & Ole's bumper sticker on a car here in Missouri warmed me a little, no small thing on this frigid winter day.

The sun is out today (finally!), even if it is colder. And my orange chicken lunch from Panda Express (on my way in to work from school) is just like eating candy.

Yea, the rain let up earlier this afternoon, but it's still gloomy outside. The sign pic is outside a coffee shop right off campus. At lunch, the pizzeria gave me a pic of Kurt Cobain to identify my table when they brought my slice out of the kitchen. Today feels more like....Cocteau Twins. Either that or something bright and poppy.

I have a little time before my evening class, but not quite enough time to bother going home and returning. I'm at the library to do a little reading, but first I'm going to tackle today's Su Doku puzzle. It's rated "mild," so it shouldn't be bad. On days they run "fiendish" ones, I don't even bother.

While I was in the library at school, it started raining. Mmm, that trek to the post office might wait. But I'll have to go out in it to get something to eat. Bah. We've had such grey weather lately. I need to get a really bright umbrella to cheer things up a bit.

Gee, that was exciting. We hunkered down, prepared for a long night without power at the beginning of an ice storm, and it lasted only about an hour and a half. Yea! I'll take it. Hopefully I'm not jinxing us for the hours ahead.

In case, like me, you forgot, the "flashlight" hiptop option from the main menu is MENU + F.

The power came back on! Charge the drained iPod in case the electricity goes back out again!

After flickering on and off several times (long enough for me to hurriedly heat a quick bite in the microwave), our electricity gave up and stayed off. The block just south of us hasn't lost power though, so maybe we won't be without very long. The last time we had a big ice storm, we sat and watched the fireworks of transformers blowing all over the area. Thankfully that's not happening right now.

In the meantime, there are candles and books, neighbors and hiptops (with 4 bars on the battery).

Kansas City has been freaked out all day about an impending ice storm. It's raining downtown, where the streets and sidewalks seem to be okay right now, but some signs and trees sport icicles already. Wonder what it will look like in the morning.
