![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ...as I unpack my 1 GB iPod shuffle? Actually, I got it on Friday, which was Day Two of a three-day-long headache, so I didn't use it much at first. I needed to get a USB drive, but Apple announced these before I went out to get something from SanDisk. I ordered it the day they were announced and got it on the 28th. It won't replace my 3G 10GB iPod, but I will likely take the shuffle everywhere with me, where I often leave my iPod at home. (It's also immediately useful for wearing around the apartment, which I share with a roommate--and we do not share musical tastes.) I'll try it for transferring files tomorrow at school. Pretty soon these are going to be as small as the cards on my keychain. Hopefully the packing boxes get smaller, too. -heidi |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And the theme today is: signs! [1] I just liked this one. [2] A coffee shop near where I work serves Maid-Rite sandwiches, but I haven't made it over there to try one yet. [3] Hula-hooped pedestrian on campus [4] The signs are catching up: the Missouri Repertory Theatre is now the Kansas City Repertory Theatre. [5] Art on the outside of the Artspace gallery [6] Ok, not really a sign, but a downtown store window. -heidi |
| Afternoon Art Fri 01.21.05 8:39pm PST #12166 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After a late afternoon appointment today, I walked over to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art [1]. It's been a while since I've been there, so I quickly revisited some old favorites (most of which don't show up well on a hiptop since I can't use a flash there). I've always loved turning the corner and seeing this huge wooden Buddha (Amida, the personification of eternal life and vast compassion--not that I remember that, but I remembered to look this time). [2, 3 & 4] I don't know if you can see the headless statues between the trees outside the gallery [5], but it was an eerie night sight as I left. I also popped in the nearby Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art briefly, but I didn't get many pics here either except for the spiders outside [6, 7] and a quick one of some Dale Chihuly glass [8]. -heidi |

![]() ![]() ![]() Yesterday Viv wondered "Whut iz it?" when she saw a weird little blue vehicle. It looks like a Sparrow electric car. I used to see a lime green car like that around Kansas City a few years ago. -heidi |

| Wearing Blue Thu 01.20.05 9:01am PST #12128 |
![]() ![]() ![]() I skipped the "Not one damn dime" protest today to buy THINK BLUE 11/4/08 wristbands for me and some friends from the College Democrats club @ school (even though I think we've got a lot of other winning to do between now and 2008). The club was doing steady business before my class this morning. Since I usually wear black, there's no symbolism in me wearing that today. But the shoes I put on to cheer me up are red, so the band will clarify things to anyone who might read too much into them on this Inauguration Day. -heidi |

The first time I came to this pizzeria right off campus, they gave me a photo of Kurt Cobain to id my order to the kitchen. That didn't fit at all. Today I am the Ramones, which is much better. And it's finally sunny and much warmer outside, I understood French class, and I have two good books* in front of me for the hour before my next class. "Nothing is worth more than this day." -Goethe * Why Read? by Mark Edmundson (fresh from interlibrary loan for pleasure reading; it's short, so I should have time for it) and Ideas for Action: Relevant Theory for Radical Change by Cynthia Kaufman (for my senior seminar class on public sociology) -heidi |
