| The Dark Side of Spring (Flowers and Flonase) Wed 03.23.05 3:03pm PST #12889 |
![]() ![]() The first week of spring has also brought out the Flonase nasal spray and cough drops for me as I'm under attack from my allergies. Feels like allergies rather than being sick, anyway. It feels like a wad of cotton is rising up in my throat, threatening to choke me. I can't hear well because my head is blocked up, and I can't smell and I feel like a zombie. Other than that, everything's good. -heidi |

To spread more Apple groupie love on hN...I've had my 1 gig iPod shuffle for a few weeks. Like PhD, I love it. Works great for transferring files between home and school (once I figured out that it doesn't work in the USB ports on the front of the computers in the labs at school, so I just plug it in back), and it's nice to always have music with me. I didn't always bring my 3d gen iPod with me, and now I leave it at home most of the time. (But that's still quite useful, too.) I don't know why Apple didn't just call it the iShuffle. That's how I refer to it, too. -heidi |

| Wave Hi! Tue 02.08.05 5:46pm PST #12371 |
From earlier today when my email wouldn't work: You won't be able to tell in this little sk photo (and I don't want to risk missing my bus to cross the street for a closer view), but every time I wait at this bus stop after class, I see little kids or babies in that square window in the building across the street. They're looking out at the cars, occasionally waving to people driving by (who don't see them). The building is an early learning center connected with the university. It's entertaining to watch them as I wait in the snow flurries that have just now started. -heidi |

Damn! UMKC lost (the game and their winning streak) with 69 points to Chicago State's 72. But it was tied with 1.9 seconds left when Chicago sank a 3 pointer. Then they sank another crazy 3 pointer at the very end. The score didn't go up right away though because it wasn't clear if it counted or not; they had to look at a replay to make sure the Chi player got the shot off before the clock ran out. -heidi |
| The Commuter School That Could Sat 02.05.05 4:53pm PST #12342 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My school is a largely commuter campus in Kansas City, and the basketball team is in the long shadow of nearby KU, which is just 45-60 minutes away. I hadn't been to a basketball game yet this year (I usually only make it to one a year), and now is a good time as any. The UMKC Kangaroos are on a crazy 11-game winning streak with a 9-0 conference record (Mid-Continent), and tonight's game is the first of three back at home. "Home" for the men's basketball team is usually the great Art Deco Municipal Auditorium downtown, 5 or so miles from campus. The team usually gets a crowd of maybe 2,000 on an average night, but the paper this morning said 7,000 tickets had already been sold for tonight's game, and people were already at the box office when it reopened at 5 tonight. There's definitely more energy in the crowd as we wait for the game to start than at any other Roos game I've been to. Should be fun. -heidi |
