Rode the bike over to the intersection of Valencia and Mission streets for a burrito at my favorite taqueria (which is coincidentally right next to my favorite">http://www.odeonbar.com/">favorite bar.) Mmmm, horchata.

A sunny day in Tilden Park. Tilden Park lies on top of the ridge which runs north to south beside Berkeley. There are lots of rolling hills that are great for hiking and horseback riding, with bay views from San Francisco to Vallejo. There's also a carousel and even a working (kid-sized) steam train. Mie and I elbowed a few second graders out of the way and took a ride through the park on the train. Choo choo.

Roger Boschetti (right) and Papa Gianni at Cafe Trieste in SF. Papa Gianni is the owner of the cafe which has a Saturday afternoon music show that is a North Beach tradition. Mr. Boschetti is a telivision producer who many many years ago used to host a show where Papa Gianni and his family would do musical performances. He still runs the Italian Telecast company which has distribution in 72 countries. Cafe Trieste is also known as the place where a young Francis Ford Coppola used to sit and work on the screenplay for The Godfather. -- Dav via Danger Hiptop [home]

Stopped in japantown to buy a phonecard so Mie can call her parents back in Tokyo. Got some red beans + shaved ice + ice cream combo. Pictured are the Hello Kitty store and a fish in an indoor koi pond. Happy new year all! Probably no pics from tonight as I'm sure the lighting will be too low. I wonder if they'll come out with a low light camera model sometime? It seems like most of the fun things I want to photograph happen in low lighting.

Somehow I, the 35 year old bachelor, find myself babysitting a 3 and 1 year old. Well actually I'm mostly playing with toys and staring aghast at the consumer-propoganda known as the Barbie "Bank with Me" Savings Bank ATM Machine, while Mie does most of the babysitting. "Thank you. It's lots of fun banking with Barbie!"

Stopped by the well regarded Green Apple used book store on Clement Street (The 'real' San Francisco Chinatown) with lovely Mie who got in from Japan yesterday. Managed to escape with only two book purchases, which I can throw in my to-read queue which is already about a dozen deep. As the handwritten sign in the store said: "so many books, so little time."
