| skypeout + cordless phone Thu 02.03.05 4:43am PST #12321 |
![]() ![]() So I got my order from phoneconnector.com this week. Its an rj11 to usb connector, so you can plug any regular phone into it and use it for skype. I must say I'm quite impressed, and with the $34 uniden phone I got on woot.com I am super hooked up. I have 2 cordless phones, running spread spectum at 2.4ghz (without dropping the wi-fi amazingly) and a speaker phone base station with answering machine. So I can strategically leave the phones around the house and always hear when someone is skype'ing me. ( I can be reached on skype almost anytime, I'm "cdf12345" and if I don't pickup, the answering machine will get it after 4 rings...so leave a message) Overall for $85 ($35 phone, $40 phone connector,$ 10 for skypeout) I have a nice system and 500 minutes of skypeout calling to actual phones in the u.s. And europe. Can't wait for skypein this summer! --Chris Falco I 'heart' tech. |
| new tivo development kit Thu 02.03.05 4:27am PST #12320 |
![]() ![]() It's soooo nice! Looks like the purchase of Strangeberry was indeed good for Tivo. I can't wait until they let us access the video and scheduler via the dev kit. The backdoor in version 7.1x tivo software is "Clear clear zero zero" at the system info screen. The animation and interactive features of this kit really standout. It's also java making it cross platform. A few applications I would love to see. Access to real's Rhapsody. I already pay for it, so a simple frontend would be nice. (Would probably require windows media 10 support though) Netflix access and movie downloads, this would be a killer ap for me, being able to queue movies and have them download directly to the tivo for viewing would definately get me to sign back up for netflix. Streaming video from websites, webcams, radiostations, etc. TivoVNC.. Shouldn't be too hard just gotta program the remote to control the mouse. I know they already have an rss reader, but I would like one that could retrieve enclosures, for example podcasts. I also want to be able to control other tivos on my network. There are so many time when I'm in my room on my tivo and browsing the shows recorded on the tivo downstairs that I want to set something to record, or have a program saved. But I am unable to do so, so I have to walk downstairs to do it. I should be able to do everything (except maybe delete shows) remotely from other tivos on the same home network. ---- Also amazon started selling annual free 2day shipping. Free 2day shipping for a year only $79. Pretty decent --Chris Falco |

Rathergate. Apparently dan rather has cuff links that have the letters F.E.A. (Fea) and he wore that shirt when the memos came out, apparently it stands for fuck em all. Just when I thought I wouldn't be able to think any less of rather. But alas, I was wrong again. Source: daily source code jan 10th, by adam curry Live.curry.com --Chris Falco |
