YES we can. If one thinks where he is coming from and on which shoulders he is standing. Talk to your father like I talk to mine as often as possible. My father 84 had a very colorful life and a lot of experience. Last year he travelled to kenia and flew with a russian helicopter to a camp an the hill of the Kilimanjar. The elder generation has already experienced a lot of historical rifts, wars and social and cultural changes in their lives paling anything what we see today as exeptional. Our lifes today are way to the norm as we contemplate. There is nothing special today. Comparable the older generation had a much harder time in all aspects. So go back to your parent and talk to them - long. When they will be gone, you will be sorry not having paid more attention in time.
Saltimbocca a la Romana and a farewell

A experienced hobby cook, the best at least in this appartment is relaxing after preparing a traditional Italian festivity lunch: "Saltimbocca a la Romana" Came with semi-grilled rosmary potatos, seared green peaes (I use only iron pans and virgine olive oil for cooking) with hacked airdried ham and airdried tomatoes from Italy, watersoaked, dried and panfried. It was followed by a not to sweet (fat free) high rising orange sufflee. The trick how to do nice sufflees which never collapse is simple (at least from a chemical viewpoint) but would bore a forum where most folks are down to earth and evidently more familiar with MacDonalds shining offerings. Relaxing for me means checking the news on the net on a Apple (Pismo) Powerbook. For news especially for the vast USA newspaper market nothing comes close to the RSS reader "Shrook". I scan 150 international channels (90% USA). Apples Pismo is the best Powerbook Apple ever produced in its history. In fact the Pismo PowerBook was the best hardware Apple ever shipped - besides the legendary Newton 2001D I still use regulary.

The lunch is a farewell to our hiptop lending. I have to return it today evening to ONE. ONE is the only provider in Austria currently selling the hiptop service. The demand for the hiptop was dramatically underestimated in Austria. Layman, journalists and self esteemed expert, you name them, where totally mistaken. People are standing in line to get "their" hiptop. The monthly data flatrate of 20€ only is a really attractive offer from ONE. We are not easy to impress, we are seasoned Newton, I have my wallet ready for "my" hiptop and shall get one as soon as possible. Cheers! Boris Michael von Luhovoy publishing editor

Austria is mourning the exceptional tragic pass-away of its president Dr. Thomas Klestil today. Only 36 hours before the handover to his presidential sucessor. Klestil new very well that he was in extreme health danger and was strongly warned by his doctors to recrate. He has put his duty first. Sad. Over 30 heads of state and noumerous representative where present at the funeral today. From Russias president Putin to Californian govenor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Putin flew in to Vienna 100 special protected cars and a entourage of 150 security guards a day ahead and landed with a military plane. Arnold came with his own private airplane - alone. Arnold knews Austria obviosly better then scared Putin.
metro and more

The Viennese Metro System is called U-Bahn. And it rocks. U stands for underground. The service is the totally opposite to most of other metro systems e.g. NY metro or the London Tube for example. The Viennese U-Bahn by a single ride ticket quite expensive (if you do not enroll any package you normally fly senator class) but very safe, extremely clean, ultra fast, has short intervals (2-3 minutes) is nice to look at and very easy and convenient to use. And as we Austrians have ourselves not made (at least not recently) a lot of enemies by bombing, invading or otherwise mutilating foreigners in their country anybody is allowed to take pictures anywhere in Austria. Airports, Energy farms, cows, cops, the president or a bug, bikini ladies in front of a army post - you name it, it does not matter - nobody cares. There is no Homeland security watching our steps and no Quantanamo or DiegoGarcia recreation facility - opposite: We encourage any foreigner to come, stay as long (and expensive) as his checks or credit cards are ok, consume to the brim and take as many photos EVERYWHERE - we sell the film-rolls by the Kilo. On that occasion we od course do not hesitate to empty the pockets of the many tourists visiting us as good as we can (we also dont look the other site if we run in a local chap) by charging for everything as much as possible - but thats another story... -----Ende der Originalnachricht-----

Fiakers, Virginias, Gondolieres and Venice

Vienna is in a nutshell Venice minus canale with singing gondoliere plus "Virginia" smoking Fiaker.

Fiaker is the name of the horse powered carriage commonly used at Maria Theresias times. Nowadays the Fiaker horses show (besides their huge and fat buts) the tourists around the old parts of the city, gives them a feeling what their dollar is really worth (already 15 minutes are awfull expensive) and provides a huge amount of horse shit to the streets.

"Virginias" are not virgins - virgins are only in tiny homeopathic doses found around our places, but long and ultrathin cigarillos, long lasting and extreme stinkers. They have to be smoked outdoors in any case - even if there would be non smoking coffees or restaurants here. Anyhow - if one would would ask the horses - they would not like the virginias either
Mozart is alive!

Best coffeshop in Vienna
this picture is owned by the submitter. contact submitter for permission before using it in any wayIf you care for the best coffee outside Italy dont look further then to the "Cafe Europa" in Vienna A-1010, Graben / Austria. The owner import and roast themselves. Consuming a "Kleiner Brauner" on the fight leaning the bar is very reasonable priced. If one wants to see the most invigorating girls walking by, like on a endless escalator, a garden in the front invites to more detailled "case studies"

ponoramic view with hiptop
this picture is owned by the submitter. contact submitter for permission before using it in any wayWe got a hiptop lending from the Austrian provider ONE www.one.at and drove to the Klopeinersee in Kärnten - for holiday. From the balkony of the Hotel "Sonnne" I snapped 15 photos of the lake with the hitop camera and sent it right from the hiptop to Bruce Dale in the USA. Bruce stiched them together for a panoramic view in Photoshop and sent them back to me and I post it now on this blogg right from the sidekick / hiptop. Impressive. The hiptop shines. Wo is Bruce Dale? Search the net. He is the former official White House photographer and was named "National Geographic photographer of the year". He is the finest expert in photoediting around on this planet. He has his own shows in the US channels. We are greatful for his effort. Thanks Bruce!

PS: The bottom section didn't go together well because of auto-exposure differences and some distortion.

The top looks very good. The photo is a original hiptop photo - in fact it consists of 15 hiptop photos. Boris Michael von Luhovoy publishing editor
