The first thing you do immediately after arriving in Venice is to buy a Tourist Ticket for the Vaporetto.

The Vaporetto the Venice public transport - by vessel. The Vaporetto stations are all over Venice and also to the surrounding islands. 10.50 Euro for 24 hours or 22.00 Euro for 72 hours may sound steep, but considering the fee of 35 Euro to pay if your caught without a ticket is is very reasonable.

Other then in the former years when it was a public sport to travel without a ticket one has bad cards nowadays. The tickets are checked by elegant derssed and unusual eloquent multilingual conductors in one of tree rides at least - due to my personal observation. So better play by the rules.

The second photo shows leaving Venice by Vaporetta on linea 1 towards Lideo de Venecia where the international filmfestival took place.

The Venice film festival 2004 on the famous "Lido di Venecia" is over and the festivals golden lions in front of the exebition are placed to rest till next year.

Michael Moore did not show his latest movie Fahrenheit 9/11 here because he would have to seize commercial marketing of the movie if competing for a price in Venice.

For Michael Moore it was a easy desition to stay off - "quote":

Its far more important with the commercial showing of Fahrenheit 9/11 in as many theaters in the US as possible to get rid of the Bush junta then to compete for a price / lion in Venice

This plan will probably not work out - Many believe that president Bush has won the second term thanks to broad masses of uninformed or informed only by Fox, assisted by Diebold and the Supreme Court as backup (just in case) already.

Open Letter
Hi Folks!

I try with mixed success to raise the level of this site by posting, as many have done here before, information with a certain quality, things of interest to a broader group in a decent language - vorvive my limited english abilities. I try as good as I can.

The idea is that this site is a great forum and technology to close gaps and distances between countries, entities, different ideas, living styles, religions and of course people on a very intimate level. Thats great! That leads to a better understanding how people life and dwell in parts of the world we probably never see. Thats a great idea! Private pictures of babies and families get-together are a gift here and give one a good understanding how others are doing. That is bringing people together. So I ask everybody with something interesting to show or a nice story to tell, or to show pictures of pets and babies to step forward and raise the quality level of hn. On the other side, I kindly ask chaps with nothing to say or show except that they have a hiptop and are flat loneley thinkers to stay a little in the background. For better understanding what I mean to the one who are not in the fine print here: Íf you have nothing to convey then that your stupid, kindly

"shut the fuck up."

Your not bringing with low level postings, mostly underscored with bad language, showing a sad lack in your upbringing, the common idea forward, but you shy away cultivated folks. I would not see any reason to continue and move away to join the ranks of the many who left this site.

The Sangeremia Hotel in Venice not exactly the Ritz Carlton - but considering that Venice is the most expensive city in Italy the centrally located hotel "Sanegeremia" is with 90 Euro for a double room a steal and delivers a excellent cost & benefit ratio.

Two minutes by strolling from the train station located near to the heart of Venice the former castle is still holding a faint smell to a class long gone - still carried over from former ages. What newcomers in Venice find out the hard way is thats important to have to the hotel as little steps and bridges to climb (and there are more of both in Venice than one can count in a lifetime) as possible where to drag the luggage over. In a city consisting mostly of canals there are no streets and logically no taxis with a helping hand when needed around. And there is more insider-info about Venice to come here. Stay tuned...

Blogging out of the train travelling between Venice to Vienna the things did not work as planned. Hope it works now. Stay tuned for more

Francesco the owner of the Sangeremia Hotel in Venice / Italy runs the whole hotel, from organising and planning the number of breakfast, accounting, roommates to the elaborated reservation and booking system on a single Apple iBook. Including the whole website management and administration is handeled on this one and only gear. In case of a breakdown there is always a backup and a Apple dealer standby. Until now he did not need either. Thats Apple... He needs nothing more than a a iBook - unbelievable for PC folks - no big deal for Apple user. Francesco, a incredible nice (still bachelor) and handsome multilingual italian gentleman is coming from a old disdinguished Venecian family. He has a deep knowledge in the inside functioning of the fine & precious clockwork Venice he shared with me and I can therefore share with you in the days to come. I will provide on hn some insider views and hints you may find usefull if you should ever visit this one and only wonder Venice, in the days to come.

The "Riesenrad" is a big wheel in the Viennese Prater (a large park- recreation area) in Vienna /Austria. It was build by the excellent british technicians and gentlemen Basset and Higgins in 1896, bravely bombed by the USA army at it is fashion nowadays to the ground (thought Vienna was a open city in WWII) and refurbished late after WWII ended. With half the amount of wagons on the wheel in the new version it took the slow acting Viennese much longer to refurbish the wheel then the construction itself - were a little slow moving over here in many fields - slow going our inner nature.

Tomorrow I leave to Venice in Italy and hope being able to provide some nice scenes from over there - provided I find a mobile provider there supporting the hiptop. My provider ONE promised it is so. I find out. I'm a frequent Venice traveller and admierer.
RNC protests - no show on hiptop nation
this picture is owned by the submitter. contact submitter for permission before using it in any wayHi mrversatal at tmail!

Thank you for letting us know why there is no reporting on the RNC protests with hiptops. Now we understand better.

We worry for our the future of the people (not only) in the USA as they are obviously not anymore free to live, assemble and speak without fear according to the constitution as crafted by the wise founders of the USA.

Hopefully there is some (thought the alternative is not really rocking or breathtaking but probably better then what is around currently) relieve in November - best wishes from the silent world majority who loves the USA and wishes the USA honestly becoming well again.

Even if the current administration makes it even for hardcore admierers inside and outside the USA harder by the day to love them.

Luckily I'm situated in Vienna - a city in which one mostly sees police and barriers when a concert coming up, a public event is taking place, or a celebrity is taking residence (left) only to keep the flow of people smooth.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."

Theodore Roosevelt, 1918
