Matthew Keefe, director of the Studio 2a Project, invited me out to take some photos of tonight's performance. It's a great mix of dance done in a round, so the audience sits on all 4 sides, giving a unique perspective that's unusual for this type of art. Selections ranged from a dark piece based off the diary of Anne Frank to a Tango by Astor Piazzolla. Pieces using Ravi Shankar, Beethoven and even Autechre as well. As it's done in an actual studio and seating is only two rows deep, you see every move up close. Every breath is heard, and every bead of sweat is seen. It's very personal. I was impressed with all the performances, and it was much better than I expected. A highly recommended show. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Got the latest (and currently only) Smokers Die Younger single from Detail Recordings. Due to a delay in shipping, a few CD-Rs with other recordings of the band and pins were thrown in with the 7" I ordered. Woo. Listening to it right after my afternoon commute was wonderful: First track of one of the CDs was "Bad Driving School," in which fast droning bass and drums lay the carpet under a dialoge of screaming "You cut me off!" versus "I'll fuck you up!" ending with "You cunt!" Whew. Remind me to not listen to this in the car. The cut "I-Spy Dry Fear" is where I cranked my stereo to a militaristic drum beat, a simple keyboard line and vocalist Amy shouting the song title on the beat (which sounds like "Eins, Zwei, Drei, Vier!"). Then the chorus then later kicks my ass. Awesome. The single "sdy" on the 7" is a nice treat. Not sure where to start describing it but I've listened to it 5 times now and going on 6. Listen to a sample at Detail Recordings. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Out with Ben, Bill and Kim. Laughing so hard over stories and PBR that we forgot to put money in the meter. Came back to find a $33 ticket on my car. Actually, only Bill and Ben are drinking PBRs. Kim is drinking Coke and I'm drinking Bell's. After finding the ticket on my car, I left it there and came back so we can get our money's worth of parking! |
