With Bill and Kim. We were going to go to the Rail Station Bar and Grill near the 38th Street stop on the Hiawatha Line, but I had a work emergency and had to run to the office. They decided to go to Lyon's Pub downtown instead and I met them there. Good popcorn shrimp. Yum.

Nick let me drive his vehicle today. He's considering selling it. I am not considering buying it. I tested it and it does indeed work. 107K miles. $6,000.

Go East is having a partial power outage likely due to the storms last night. I routed power to get our phone system back up. Although our connectivity to the internet and none of our servers went down, one of our routers that allows users outgoing access lost power so I had to plug that in elsewhere. I'm glad we got the replacement UPS units a few months ago.

Some lighting and cooling is down, so co-worker Nick made good use of an old G3 to prop the server room door open. It was getting quite warm in there.

Some workstations still do not have power, so I have to move people around for a bit until power is fully back up. My boss has his office lit with a single dim lamp.

Thankfully the toaster has power so I was able to toast Pop Tarts.

Up at my mother's old house the phone stopped working on 9th July. Randy normally uses his mobile phone so it hasn't been an issue for him. He's had a lot of other things to deal with anyway. I went up to the house today to work on it.

From the demarcation point everything is fine, so it is likely not Qwest's fault. When the house is plugged in from the demarcation point it is as if someone has a phone off the hook somewhere. It also seems the voltage is lower as if some line is crossed; there is usually not enough power on the line for my test phone to generate DTMF tones. The DSL works fine though, so that's strange. I've unplugged everything, including the DSL router, taken apart a few questionable jacks to check them and I cannot find the problem. Quite frustrating. Not sure where to look next.

For good news, I was able to visit with Simon and Porter and do some software updates on Randy's iMac.

Roommate Matt had an extra ticket to see The Wrens at the Triple Rock Social Club. I didn't know much about them at all -- turns out they put on a great show.

At the home of Brian Melendez, DFL State Party Chair. Guest of honor was US Senator Mark Dayton. Many other elected officials and candidates for US Senate were there. A huge house: even though there were over a hundred people there, it was easy to find privacy. I was impressed with the large selection of periodicals in one of the five or six bathrooms.
