Since we switched to iPhones, we've stopped using the GPS subscription that came with my now retired wife's Vcast LG swiss army phone. So we made the leap into dedicated GPS navigation device for our car with a TomTom One. This is a highly-rated basic unit that is working quite well for our needs.

One frivolous and marginally fun feature of the TomTom and other similar devices is the ability to switch between different gendered and accented voices. You can even purchase celebrity voices to install. I went for Mr. T and Sexy Sylvia (MP3 of Sylvia).

Now instead of the bland female voice my wife talked to as "Agnes" on her LG phone, she has to deal with "turn left fool!" and "oh, we're at your destination, but let's go a little further."
