The Summit Room Tue 05.22.07 8:20am PDT #21042 |
We're at a height of about a dozen Washington Monuments above sea level in the Summit Room of Cliff Lodge sharing presentations all day. The folks presenting have to keep from being distracted by the breathtaking view of the snowy mountain ridge. I'm also enduring a slight headache from the altitude. - mike lee - snowbird, utah |
Salt Lake To Snowbird Mon 05.21.07 7:01pm PDT #21037 |
My flight arrived without incident at Salt Lake where the weather was moody grey. The EarPlanes pressure adjusting ear plugs my mother-in-law suggested I try did a great job of keeping my head from exploding. I rode to Snowbird in a van with Hugh and Cathy, who run our Publications Group. It was a long and twisty climb into the cloud shrouded Wasach Forest. We're in the Cliff Lodge. The staff says there were snow flurries an hour ago. In the last photo, you can see my wonderfully usable Michael Graves travel alarm clock from Target deployed in my room. Connecting to the free Air2Data WiFi was all too easy. Now to find dinner. - mike lee - snowbird, utah |

Local Taste Sun 05.20.07 1:38pm PDT #21028 |
We walked Taste of Wheaton, our neighborhood festival of local restaurant cuisine and community services. Cici went nuts in the kiddie carnival taking in the ferris wheel, tilt-a-whirl, and moon bounce. More photos on Flickr. - mike lee |
Bubble Tea From Bubbly Lady Sat 05.12.07 9:45am PDT #20987 |
Walking past an independent cell phone store on our way to Suporn's Thai Restaurant for lunch, we noticed that the cell store recently added a bubble tea stand. Stepping inside to check it out, the lady behind the stand flipped out after Cici gave her a kiss on the cheek and insisted on making her a mango bubble tea with tapioca balls and fruit jellies. Child's head grows slightly larger again. - mike lee - wheaton, md |
Most Of A Day Of Service Thu 05.10.07 2:29pm PDT #20975 |
Today was our company's annual Day of Service where employees are required to volunteer at one of a variety of community service organizations local to their office. In a different twist from prior years, a call went out for eight volunteer photographers. I was selected. Each of us had to visit three or four of the locations to shoot photos. I visited all three of my assigned destinations today (all close to my house!) and also had a nice lunch break chat with the director of our global network. I made it home early because the last location I visited ended their activity earlier than scheduled. So now I have the day's take downloaded and edited. - mike lee - wheaton, md |
Hockenberry's Day Thu 05.10.07 6:27am PDT #20973 |
Yesterday's Human 2.0 conference at MIT was simply outstanding. The host, journalist John Hockenberry, carried the day with a commanding, and at appropriate times, humorous stage presence. With co-organizer MIT Professor Hugh Herr, a series of remarkable people demonstrated how they are developing or using technology to enable greater adaptibility to physical challenges. Though it was many hours of programming, I highly recommend sampling some of the RealVideo archived at the conference site. Pictured here are John and Architect Michael Graves, as well as my commute home. I took scads of photos and video clips, some of which I will post on Flickr or YouTube. - mike lee |
At The Kresge Wed 05.09.07 5:42am PDT #20966 |
I'm all regsitered at the Kresge Auditorium and seated waiting for the H2.0 symposium to start. The press office says there are 50 reporters here including the NYT, WSJ and of course Boston Globe. - mike lee - mit |
To Human 2.0 Tue 05.08.07 9:53pm PDT #20965 |
Co-worker Pam and I flew up to Boston today to attend tomorrow's Human 2.0 symposium at the MIT Media Lab. We hit the ground running and had an idea-charged meeting with Professor Tod Machover. We checked in on Cory and Dan in the robotics lab. They were feverishly engaging in robot construction. Then John Maeda's assistant and her husband took us to dinner at La Tasca Tapas Restaurant in Brighton. The last photo shows how my hotel, the Sheraton Newton, sits on top of the turnpike and the earplugs provided by room service. More trip photos on Flickr - mike lee - newton, ma |
